Nigel Rossiter has been a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital, Hampshire Hospitals since 2002/3.
He was previously a Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeon in the British Army from 1985. He trained in London, Londonderry, Belfast, Gosport, Plymouth, and Oxford, and has done fellowship training in UK, USA and Russia.
His principal practice areas are in Orthopaedic Trauma encompassing all aspects of knee surgery (including arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, meniscal surgery, articular cartilage procedures, osteotomy and joint replacement surgery), soft tissue Shoulder surgery and Trauma related problems. He previously ran the Wessex Pelvic and Acetabular unit, is the Hampshire Hospitals lead for Trauma and the Clinical Lead for Trauma Units in the Wessex Trauma Network, having led the setting up the South Central Trauma System and Networks.
Nigel was the Founding President of the Orthopaedic Trauma Society. He is the coordinator for Primary Trauma Care education in Uganda and a trustee of the Primary Trauma Care Foundation. He was the founder of a medical charity Link of Basingstoke with Hoima Hospital in Uganda. He has been voted the Trainer of the Year for the Wessex area, Inspiring Educator of the Year from NHS Shine Awards (twice), and the Hippocrates Award for excellence in the field of medicine from Who’s Who.
