The UHCW Trauma Fellowship is a six/ twelve-month post-CCT fellowship based at University Hospital Coventry, a busy Major Trauma Centre offering extensive exposure to both general and complex orthopaedic trauma.
The fellowship is predominantly theatre-based and provides an invaluable variety of operative experience. It is suited to surgeons seeking to consolidate their trauma skills, develop confidence in pre- and intra-operative clinical decision making, and prepare for independent consultant practice.
Clinical exposure includes peri-articular fractures, nail-plate constructs, periprosthetic fractures, upper-limb trauma, paediatric fractures, and pelvic and acetabular injuries. Fellows also gain experience in orthoplastic trauma, non-union surgery, and the management of fracture-related infection.
The majority of cases allow the fellow to operate as the primary surgeon, with appropriate supervision ranging from a trainer scrubbed to a trainer unscrubbed. There are also opportunities to undertake independent trauma operating lists as competence and experience develop.
The post includes a limited on-call commitment, which attracts additional banding and supplements the fellowship salary while preserving its predominantly operative focus.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have:
- FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics), or equivalent
- Completed CCT or CESR requirements
