Limb Reconstruction Fellowship – St Georges Hospital, London

This is primarily an adult limb reconstruction fellowship.  Experience will be gained in post-traumatic limb reconstruction and deformity correction. The unit also provides an amputation service.  As St Georges is a major trauma centre experience will also be gained in the management of open fractures etc including paediatric open tibiae.

The post includes being on the senior fellow weekend on call rota.

The post is usually for 12 months commencing in October.  It is normally advertised on NHS Jobs, but enquiries are welcome.

The Middlesbrough Complex Trauma & Limb Recon Fellowship

We offer a 6-12 month fellowship opportunity to senior surgeons completing training or senior non-training grade surgeons looking for enhanced experience in trauma operating and patient management.

This fellowship offers unique dedicated access to trauma theatres with only one outpatient session a week and no daytime on call.

Our fellows learn specialist techniques in trauma surgery and in particular, complex trauma in poor hosts, including orthoplastic patient management. The fellows are expected to play an active role in the unit, including the Orthoplastics MDT.

In addition, limb reconstruction techniques include exposure to circular framing and pelvic & acetabular surgery features. Fellows will be under the direct supervision of Will Eardley and James Bassett who can be contacted on William.eardley@nhs.net and james.bassett@nhs.net

Our fellowship is routinely booked up from two years ahead however late cancellations are often available, and the adverts will be released on NHS Jobs.

Liverpool NHS. 2 x Trauma fellowships
In LUHFT we have 2 x trauma fellowships (start in August – option of 6  months, but prefer 12) and 1 x major trauma fellowship (linked to P&A team) – 12 months from August.
BARTS Health NHS, adult acute complex trauma, limb reconstruction and bone infection

Royal London hospital, providing an excellent higher training opportunity in a tertiary high-volume centre in all aspects of adult acute complex trauma, limb reconstruction and bone infection. Involvement in research, independent operating lists and supported MTC on calls are offered to suitable candidates. Cardiff Trauma Fellowship
Cardiff Trauma fellowship: Based at the university Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, a designated major trauma centre. This post is suitable for senior trainees ( ideally post CCT) who are committed to Orthopaedic trauma. This yearly appointment provides excellent experience in complex trauma, Ortho-plastic management, and Pelvi-acetabular trauma along with educational and leadership opportunities. King’s College Hospital, London – Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery Fellowship

Our busy MTC has an Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery Fellowship Programme that offers four positions tailored to advanced training depending on the educational needs of the candidates. The fellowship can be themed towards pelvic and acetabular surgery, limb reconstruction (including bone infection), complex periarticular trauma, orthoplastics or any combination of the above. Other opportunities include engaging in medical education from student to registrar levels; participating in research and quality improvement projects; and, collaborating with other specialties such as anaesthesia, intensive care, and trauma general surgery. The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow – Major Trauma Fellowship
The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is the designated Major Trauma Centre for the West of Scotland, providing MTC care for a population of 2.7 million. As such, the QEUH unit is regional centre for tertiary practices, including Limb Reconstruction, Pelvic & Acetabulum, Rib Fracture Fixation, and periarticular fractures. In addition to these tertiary centre practices, the unit has well-established and large volume Foot & Ankle, Upper Limb, and general trauma services.
Applicants are invited to apply for 6 or 12 month fellowships, starting August or February, with preference given to applications for 12 months. The focus of the fellowships can be mapped to the applicant’s request.
Pelvic & Acetabular fellows will work primarily with the four Pelvic trauma surgeons: Miss. Sarah Gill, Mr. Michael Kelly, Mr. Luke Campton and Mr Andrew Marsh. The P&A team receive approximately 350 regional referrals and perform over 100 P&A fixations per annum.
The Limb Reconstruction team compromises of Mr. Bilal Jamal, Mr David Shields, Mr. Christopher Crome, and Mr. Alistair Macey (Orthopaedics) and Mr. Fairbairn, Ms. Tay, Mr. Reekie and Mr. Biddlestone (Plastics). This team operates on a large volume of periarticular and open fractures, with practices utilising both internal and circular ring fixation, with an integrated Ortho-Plastics approach. The unit also offers a separate limb reconstruction fellowship for candidates to gain experience in bone infection, deformity correction, non-union, leg length discrepancy, as well as acute trauma.
The unit offers a Major Trauma fellowship, working alongside Miss. Sarah Gill. This fellowship focuses on trauma reception and resuscitation, and operative management of the polytraumatised patient, with a focus on P&A, Rib Fracture fixation, and Lower Limb (including periarticular) fracture fixation. The unit performs 25-30 rib fracture fixation cases per annum.
The Fellow will work as part of a 23-person middle grade rota, with on-call and night shift commitments, contributing to a 50% banding. Academic activity is encouraged with a mixed focus between clinical research and clinical governance, with a particular emphasis on patient safety and quality improvement.
