Education Committee
The OTS delivers a comprehensive trauma revalidation program at the BOA annual congress. This rolling program covers all aspects of orthopaedic trauma that surgeons on the general on-call rota will face.
Coupled with this, the OTS provides trauma research updates and discussions regarding the delivery of trauma care and policies over several sessions at every annual congress.
We have a great link with BOTA, with the OTS delivering the trauma component of the BOTA instructional course for the last few years and receiving great feedback.
The OTS annual meeting is the flagship event in the society’s calendar. Our meeting moves location every year but is always a popular event and is routinely sold out. The style is typically case discussion and interesting debate around delivery of trauma care in the UK. We typically have one or two special guest speakers, and the meeting welcomes all from both trauma unit and MTC. This meeting is a must for the trauma interested orthopaedic surgeon.
The OTS is also regularly invited to participate at many international meetings, including in 2018, the German Orthopaedic Association annual meeting (DKOU) – the largest orthopaedic conference in Europe, where we delivered a symposium on the evolution of trauma care in the UK. The OTS has also presented at traumacon 2020 and been an invited society at the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association meetings.

Research Committee
The OTS, with its broad membership across the generality of United Kingdom Trauma, is ideally placed to shape and influence the research agenda within the speciality.
The role of the Research Committee is to coordinate and signpost research activity within our community. This covers clinical effectiveness research, but also basic science and translational research as well as innovation. The Research Committee is there to develop young research talent and support seasoned investigators. By this means we can provide the Society with an overview of the direction of travel of research within our speciality. We provide a portal for advice and for the distribution of meaningful research findings for the membership through social media.

Communication and Website
The website has been redesigned and is still at an early stage. What we would like to do is to add as many relevant sections. We are trying to promote UK trauma courses as well as the available trauma fellowships. We would like to have a rolling journal update to make it easy for readers to keep up-to-date. Some case examples along with trauma webinars are all in the pipeline. classic and relevant papers can also be made available. Historic Re validation lectures at the British Orthopaedic Association and also lectures from past meetings should be available in the member’s section. Open to suggestions about how we can improve this and please contact me on: andrew.gray1@nhs.net‘
Policy
The Orthopaedic Trauma Society is the official body representing trauma orthopaedics in the UK, as recognised by the British Orthoapedic Association, NICE, NHS England, and the International Orthopaedic Trauma Association.
It has represented the UK, as part of the guest nation status, for the North American Orthopaedic Trauma Association in 2017, and the German Congress of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in 2018. It acts as a stakeholder for NICE clinical guidance and quality standards, and its members represent trauma and orthopaedics on numerous national and international panels. This produces standards and consensus, directs research initiatives and leads on education and revalidation.
