Femoral Fragility Trauma Masterclass
Femoral Fragility fractures are becoming more common as populations age and carry very high healthcare costs. Morbidity and mortality are also a big concern equalling the combined five year morbidity and mortality of breast cancer and Diabetes Mellitus. There is also loss of independence as many patients do not return home, and quality of life deteriorates. Management isn’t just about surgery. Fragility fractures often involve comorbidities (frailty, osteoporosis, nutritional deficiencies, frailty syndromes) that influence decisions and outcomes. Bone health assessment is often under-utilised as many older patients with femoral fractures are vitamin D deficient or have untreated osteoporosis.
A masterclass in Femoral Fragility Trauma is an opportunity for knowledge exchange on surgical techniques, optimisation of frail patients, perioperative management, post-op rehab, and secondary prevention. It can also address new guidelines and evidence based data regarding management of post operative complications such as Prosthetic Joint Infection and Periprosthetic Fractures.
The University Hospitals Birmingham UK and the University of Bern Switzerland are joining forces to deliver a high quality masterclass meeting to elaborate on Femoral Fragility Trauma in a Multidisciplinary way. The city of Birmingham will host the 1st Masterclass on 8-9 September 2026 and we invite all of our colleagues who manage this cohort of frail patients to participate

The meeting has received accreditation from the Royal College of Surgeons and CPD points will be applied for.
