The Orthopaedic Trauma Society
OTS remains one of the most active specialist societies in terms of education for our members at all stages of their careers. We have delivered trauma revalidation sessions at BOA for several years and have collaborated with BOA trauma, BOOS, BSCOS and other specialist societies to provide up to date guidance and discuss challenging cases.
We are proud to continue out links with BOTA and support our trainee colleagues with trauma instructional sessions at their annual conference.
We also offer bursaries to members who wish to undertake visits to other trauma centres, to gain knowledge, skills and ideas that can be brought back to their unit for the improvement in their patient’s care. We continue to sponsor positions on the BOA future leaders program, ensuring that trauma surgery remains a priority for the national leaders of tomorrow.
On our website we display information on trauma fellowships and courses throughout the UK, and have a number of links to educational resources provided by the OTS, national and international partners.
The OTS annual meeting is the flagship event in the society’s calendar. This is a great event where we take the opportunity to provide updates in trauma care, current concepts, difficult case discussions and information about national programs such as GIRFT and BOAST. We continue to welcome outstanding international speakers who are global leaders in orthopaedic trauma. It’s also a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues, and is a must in the diary of any surgeon interested in trauma.

The OTS annual meeting is the flagship event in the society’s calendar. Our meeting moves location every year but is always a popular event and is routinely sold out. The style is typically case discussion and interesting debate around delivery of trauma care in the UK. We typically have one or two special guest speakers, and the meeting welcomes all from both trauma unit and MTC. This meeting is a must for the trauma interested orthopaedic surgeon.
The OTS is also regularly invited to participate at many international meetings, including in 2018, the German Orthopaedic Association annual meeting (DKOU) – the largest orthopaedic conference in Europe, where we delivered a symposium on the evolution of trauma care in the UK. The OTS has also presented at traumacon 2020 and been an invited society at the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association meetings.
