OTS Update, January 2025

OTS Update, January 2025

Dear OTS Members. Happy 2025 on behalf of the Orthopaedic Trauma Society committee.

We hope January hasn’t been too hectic and that everyone has survived the cold weather. Our first newsletter of the year, just to touch base and share some key updates. Aiming to send out a monthly update on OTS that will typically include details for the annual meeting, educational events, research, website and comms updates.

Can all current members who have not yet logged into the new site to do so using the email address that you have received this communication to? This is the address attached to your OTS account. For your first time, you will simply have to select reset password to enable access to the full range of resources available.

Current OTS membership is free so please forward the website link and encourage your orthopaedic colleagues to join if they have not done so already.

We had an online meeting with the Orthoevidence team from Hamilton in Canada last week and have enabled free access to this resource for all members. Access to the Orthoevidence portal can be obtained once you are a member and logged on – the page can be found on the link;

We also have an Orthopaedic Trauma Society LinkedIn page that can be followed and is updated every few days. The number of followers seems to be increasing well over the first few weeks since this was set up. Thank you to everyone that is engaging with the content and updates. The BJJ will be forwarding each month summary articles on the main trauma publications, and we will also try to send out monthly summary updates on key papers from the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and Injury (any help with this would be much appreciated – good CPD!). The resource library on the website also has some new case reports and excellent papers, we would encourage any suggestions for this resource from OTS members as we build the library in the months ahead.

Specific thanks to Will Eardley for putting together the first in a series of hip fracture updates which should run throughout 2025.  If anybody else would like to publish similar update articles on key topics then just let me know (andrew.gray1@nhs.net).

This year‘s annual meeting in Sheffield is on the 5th and 6th of June preceded on the 4th by the clinical trials day and pelvic acetabular forum. Specific details to follow but Steve Borland and the educational team are putting together a great program and Rick Buckley is coming across from Calgary in Canada who should be both informative and entertaining along with some other excellent speakers. More information to follow you can now register on the Clockwork Medical Website.

The executive committee has an online meeting on the 28th of this month so please email me directly on andrew.gray1@nhs.net with any items or queries for the agenda. There are several committees covering policy, education, research and comms so if you would like to be involved in any aspect of society then just e-mail.
